🌎Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Action

Diversity & Inclusion Overview

Tech Fleet is a diverse community of learning and growing individuals working towards equal and unobstructed access to quality UX and development resources. For this reason, diversity and inclusivity within our community are of the utmost importance.

The Tech Fleet community does not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind. Be conscious of how you are communicating with others, and always err on the side of respectful caution when you are saying something that could be construed as offensive. Do not make sexual comments to another community member. Do not make jokes about another's sex, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or any other demographic information. If you have been made to feel unsafe or uncomfortable by anyone else in the community, please speak up and let your team leader or another Tech Fleet leader know.

Being You and Respecting Others

Every member of the Tech Fleet project teams, apprentice or lead, should feel comfortable expressing themselves and communicating their boundaries in their team environment. Using the gender-pronoun β€˜they’ when a team member has not explicitly defined their pronouns is one example of building an inclusive work environment. Likewise, you should feel comfortable communicating your personal preferences, whether it be name, gender identity, working boundaries, or anything else.

Neurodiversity and Disability

Physical and psychological differences are another element of diversity in teams. Structure your meetings and tasks in such a way that every team member is able to play to their strengths and lean on the team for help with their weaknesses. One way to do this is by communicating directly and clearly as much as possible, avoiding innuendos, sarcasm, and implied/unspoken statements if there is any risk of being misunderstood. If you are neurodiverse or disabled and comfortable with sharing your diagnosis, your team will benefit greatly learning about your unique strengths and challenges and how accommodations can improve the team's output as a whole.

Cultural Inclusivity

Tech Fleet team members come from all over the globe, bringing with them diversity not only in culture but also in lived experience. It is important that we recognize and respect everyone’s way of life. By adapting our behaviors to facilitate appropriate interaction and communication, we can approach learning and guiding as inclusively as possible.
