Description

The UX designer orchestrates user experiences in the product. They either perform research + UI, or just perform UI work depending on the Tech Fleet Program scope. They are masters of usaer pain points and take direction from the product requirements to make the experiences a reality with development teams.

Cross-functional aspects

  1. With the Client - present design solutions and validate them; collect data and feedback for direction of the work

  2. With the Project Lead - consult about the direction of the project's plans; get support

  3. With the Product Strategy - consult about the priority of research action items in the roadmap; deliver and communicate insights from research for product strategy to implement

  4. With Research - get information about user research insights to inform design decisions; participate in team UX research; work with research to build usability and evaluative testing of your designs

  5. With Development - deliver and communicate design specs

Lead Responsibilities

  • Consult with the Research team in defining research goals for the project

  • Lead the Design team's direction of defining and building the user experience of the product throughout the project

  • Collaborate with the UX Research team to create UX artifacts based on research results

  • Provide feedback and coaching to apprentices in all activities

  • Mentor apprentice UX designers on the project in the following ways:

  • Creating artifacts throughout the project such as:

    • Storyboards

    • Journey maps

    • User flow charts and customer experience diagrams

    • Personas

    • Low fidelity prototypes

    • High fidelity prototypes

  • Moderating and facilitating UX-related workshops with the project group and the client’s team

  • Working with the client to refine the vision of the product based on user needs and UX best practices

  • Work in collaboration with the research team and product owner to test artifacts and refine the vision

Apprentice Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the project lead and UX design lead while taking on and leading your own tasks each sprint

  • Explore the product vision with the client to form research goals for the project and carry them out with a cross-functional team

  • Help the client form assumptions about their audience and product

  • Creating artifacts (along with the UX design lead) throughout the project such as:

    • Storyboards

    • Journey maps

    • User flow charts and customer experience diagrams

    • Personas

    • Low fidelity prototypes

    • High fidelity prototypes

  • Work with the UX research team as they build and run experiments for a variety of methods, including but not limited to Interviews, ethnography, prototype tests, market/competitor research, or audience demographics research

  • Participate with the UX research team in research results workshops

  • Working with the client to refine the vision of the product based on user needs and UX best practices

  • Take insights from research and collaborate with product strategy and research teams to build and test solutions

Role Expectations

  • Ability to create direction in uncertainty and explore business problems without direct guidance

  • Interest in performing Lean UX methods and the capability to make suggestions on UX methods

  • Deep understanding of UX and psychology theory with an ability to apply it to project work

  • Deep understanding of UX artifacts that are used to communicate user needs and behavior

  • Working cross-functionally between research and product

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Be the β€œvoice of the customer” and β€œcustomer expert” for the group along with the research team, the person who grows their subject matter expertise in the product industry and user groups involved

  • Take ownership of the UX design activities within the project group
